Sticky (Tacky) Steering Wheel (04 PF SE)

Not sure if anyone else is or has experienced this issue, but the leather steering wheel on our 04 PF SE has become very tacky. The PF lives outside every day and now with the warmer (hot) weather, the steering wheel's condition has become worse. Yes, the wheel does show minor signs of wear and most of the texture on the top 1/3 of the wheel is not visible. Is there something I can do to remove the tackiness from the leather? What, if any, leather products would rejuvenate the wheel, but at the same time not make it super slick or greasy? Would clear (neutral) shoe polish or leather balm be okay?

Re-wrapping or replacing the wheel are not options.
