Like the title says. The tach in my 82 280 sticks. At idle it seems OK but when I rev the enigne to about three grand the tach only goes up to... two and very slowly. When I shut the engine down the needle stays at one thousand. If I tap on the tach the needle will drop. I'm thinking this is a mechalical problem rather than electrical. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

a buddy of mine has a similar issue recenly with one of his 140's he tire ti apart cleaned and reassymbled ti repeatedly before figuring out it was just physically binding, he shimed it with a piece fo straw (I'd recomend a thin piece fo plastic) and it's now working like a champ

Thanks evildky, I'll try that. I knew I could count on you!
