I'm sure there was something about this on the "old" boards, but I can't see anything about it here?

Basically when the car is cold (in the morning say) the gas/accelerator pedal has a stickyness to it at the initial push. This makes it difficult to do a smooth take off at low speeds.I've noticed that this does not occur as much when the car is warmed up.

Does anybody know what causes this - and what the solution is to rectify it?

I also have another quick question - adjustment of alternator belts. The car is so packed under the hood/bonnet that there is not a great deal of room to adjust the belts (it has started slipping/squealing) - any advice for the easiest way to adjust the tension?

The sticking pedal is a gummed up throttle chamber that can be cleaned with a good carb cleaner and old tooth brush. Just hold the throttle open and clean the carbon out. The car will run alittle rough at first and then smooth out. Loosen the top and bottom alt bolts and at the top is a 12mm bolt on the bracket you turn in to adjust the belt tighter. I'm assuming this is a 240 sx???

Thanks for the reply - sorry about not mentioning that it was a 240SX ;)

I'll see about getting some carb cleaner tonight :)

I am having the same issue with my 240SX with fuel injection--not carb. Do I do the same stuff?

Carb cleaner just disolves carbon deposits afaik anyway...not only useful for cleaning "carbs" as such

Not done this yet - waiting for the weekend first...then I'll find another excuse not to do it ;)
