Sticky Console

I have a 1991 G20 that I bought new in 1990. Recently I have noticed a sticky substance on all parts of my console.. inside and out! Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have tried to clean it, but it appears to be tha plastic breaking down. Any solutions for a fix?

Did you use armour all? I've heard armour all (the all-purpose formula) breaks down plastic & rubber, esp. in hot weather.

I don't remember using Armor-All, but I would not rule it out. The problem is, the console (and only the console) is totally involved. The sticky stuff is in places that I would not have tried to clean... under the seats, inside the console compartment, and everywhere. Other components apparently made of the same material are uneffected. If I were going to clean with Armor-all, I would have cleaned the dash before I would have cleaned the inside of the console.
