Sticking Fuel Gauge

Scenario: I fill up the Versa the other day and start her up but the fuel gauge stays on E and the light stays on. So I drive over to the dealer to show him and they tell me they have never seen the gauge stick on a versa. I shut it off and start it up, and the needle jumps back up. Dealer says he doesn't see a problem......
Today: I start the car up after work and the needle stays on empty for aprox 15 miles and slowly rises up to where it should be.

Question: Has anyone else encountered this and what is the resolution? Is it a bad sensor, a bad gauge, or something that I live with?

Sounds like there is a broblem within the petrol tank sensor/float or whatever that is sticking.

My brother's Armada does the same thing.

I got a call back from the dealer today and he said that he contacted Nissan and that they had not heard of this happening on the Versa but gave him some diagnostic steps if it happens again. I can imagine that I am going to just have to live with it because it is sporatic and I doubt that they could recreate it which is what they say they will have to do. The daughter is leaving for college with the car on Saturday so I guess I will wait until summer to do anything more. Just curious. did your brother ever get a resolution?

What model year is your daughter's Versa?

The fuel level sensor is part of the fuel pump assembly, and it should just be sticking. I don't think it is electrical because in most cars with modern ECU & EVAP systems, a OBD II code from the fuel level sensor code will shut off the EVAP monitoring system, and you'll see a light on the dash.

2008 Versa but one of the early ones because it was manufactured in 2007.

No, he never did take it in to have it looked at. His is inconsistent too, but he only drives it like once or twice a month so it doesn't bother him. The Armada actually has an mpg tracker built-in on their lcd screen that is pretty accurate anyway.

My teenager is the main driver of the Versa, and she reported the exact same issue to me yesterday, she filled up the tank and noticed later in the day when she started it the fuel gauge stayed around a 1/4 or 1/8th of a tank and didn't move. When I checked it, the gage read full, so we are experiencing the intermittant problem too (at least once so far).
