I have a '92 300ZX 2+2 5 speed. Why has my shifter become very loose with a lot of movement even in gear? What does fixing it entail? Thank you.

The shifter bushings, yours are likely OEM and have fell apart. Many posts and videos on this subject just search you tube.

Here you go: Just unscrew the knob off first then follow video.

More than likely its a combination of the shifter bushing and the mount with majority of the movement due to the broken mount, the stock mounts a rubber and disintegrate over time.

I had bought my Z with an aftermarket shifter and it too was loose in gear. It ended up being the shifter linkage or your bushings as mentioned if yours is OEM shifter.
