What situation? For exposing the double standard? For having an opinion, on the subject in question?

I cant see page (fully) here at work. I would assume it is another gimmic between the Foxnews 'entertainers' and the Comedy Central 'entertainers.' Kind of like how the HBO 'entertainer' feeds off the Foxnews 'entertainers' blasting him. It is all a rating hype.
I must confess that I dont like either Stewart or O'Reilly and cant stand it when people think their show's subject matter high journalism.

Thanks Howie, for the recap. But I still have to ask (again) does anyone really win in these kind of situtations?

I can't tell if O'Reilly is trying to be a douche for laughs by asking leading questions, or if it's just the way he is.

Air goes in, blathering nonsense comes out. You can't explain that.

I'm going to have to disagree. He is very calculating and chooses his words wisely. I actually think he's relatively intelligent. I don't often agree with his argument, but he presents it in a way that ropes people in if they aren't keeping an open mind. It's impressive, tbqh.

Oh, I have no doubts that he's an intelligent man. He's Harvard-educated. But he's also obnoxious and the use of the leading questions itself is enough for me to call him a dishonest piece of s***.

It depends on your metric.

Sensible people recognize both of these characters as entertainers, as you already said, and not real journalists. That established, the winner would be the most entertaining, or in this case the guy with the most "zings" on the other guy, which is definitely Stewart.

But no, the earth's tectonic plates have not shifted, the rapture has not come, and life is unchanged.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. Sorry if it seemed that way. I would agree with this statement entirely. He is dishonest. But he is smart. That's part of what makes it so dangerous.

Unfortunately I would guess that far more people would think of O'Reilly as a journalist more than an entertainer. It is hard to take Stewart as anything other than an entertainer.

I wouldn't argue that he is genuinely unintelligent, either. He is an idiot and a blight on society in the same way that Glenn Beck was. Entertainers putting on shows to get ratings, as someone here put it.

Dishonest, but intelligent? Sure, I guess we can give him that much. :)

Edit: On second thought... Do you guys think that O'Reilly is genuinely independent or even slightly left-leaning in reality? I can't help but think he genuinely believes a lot of his content, as he personally writes and manages a large part of his show.

I don't know. I'd like to suggest without getting in trouble that there's not as much money to be made in pandering to the mouth-breathing left, in part because much of leftist ideology comes from distrusting messages from authority figures.

It could be that, deep down inside, Bill O'Reilly is Telcoman. It's really hard to know what's going on upstairs when someone is acting purely in their financial self-interest. I prefer not to worry about that, and simply judge him for the things he says.

^^
This is because, as with the WWE, some of O'Reilly's audience are troglodytes that will believe anything. If he's a Journalist, I'm an Inuit Eskimo.
