I have a 89 240sx and the previous owner of the car has cut the wiring to the stereo. And I want to wire a CD player to it. I've searched for the diagram and I went out trying to wire it, turn the car on and ....... Nothing happened. Im just gonna tell you what I did and can some1 tell me what Im doin wrong. From the plug to the CD player, I take a wire called "Battery 15A" and I connect that to the blue wire (Switched 12v) on the car. From the plug, I take the "ACC" wire and I connect that to the Red/Black (constant 12v). There are other wires from the plug I dont know what its for. There is a blue wire and 2 black ones. What should I connect the blue and the 2 black wire to? Should I check for the fuse, because when I got the car, the lights wont turn on when I open the doors, the words on the climate control thing wont light up, the gauge wont light up when I turn on the headlights (only if I put the key in and turn it to ON). And the powered seat belts wont move when I open the door, only when the car is on. Hehe, lots of things, Do you guys think its the fuse thats blown?

I don't know what kind of stereo you're looking at but there was about 15 or 20 wires that needed to connect when I installed my head unit. Did you go to like Wal-Mart or something and pick up an adapter for the stereo? I'll try to find a pic or something that will help you out. There should be at least 11 wires connecting to the back of the head unit. There are two wires for each speaker, that's eight. Plus a power antenna wire, a black ground wire, and one that goes to the battery. There will probably also be a blue wire that says remote on it, that wire is used if you install an amplifier. And there will be one or two pre-outs on the back of the head unit, but those also are only used for when you have an amplifier for subwoofers or extra speakers or something.

Well as for the other wires, like all the speaker wires, I know how to connect those. Im just wonderin if all the wiring for Battery and ACC is correct or or not. I think something is wrong with the electrical wiring inside my car. I cant live without music. All those problems i listed up there, does it mean my fuse is blown or something?

Well, a multimeter will tell you what to use for those 2 wires. I think you have them reversed.

You need the "constant" one that is always on w/ battery connected to the "Battery 15A" & the one that comes on w/ the key in the ACC or ON position to the other one (Switched or ACC).

You can figure out these wires/verify them by using a multimeter and probing them.

But even if you switched them, the player should turn on when the car is on (bcs both will have power). Really sounds like you blew a fuse somewhere. To find out, your gonna have to do some probing to see - if power is reaching the cd player (those 2 wires), then there is something wrong w/ ur player, and you should check the fuse on the player too. If power isn't reaching the player, then you have to start probing all over the place.

Be careful of what wires you cut, a lot of ppl accidently remove power to some of the stuff (like the lights for the climate control, etc.

most decks wont turn on unless the ANTENNA is plugged into the unit. This is on most newer and some older after market head units. Most people will test power on the HU before putting it all back together. They look at the two prong "diversity antenna" factory plug on the antenna and think "ill just pick one up later. WRONG. It's a ten dollar piece that converts the two prong to a 1 prong"universal" plug. Once installed your head unit should power on. Another way to test this theory is to take your head unit straight to the battery. Hook yellow and red wires to the + and the black to the - and try to power it on. The yellow is your ACC, red is power, black is ground. CONSULT YOUR MANUAL TO VERIFY COLORS. If you do this and it powers on then the antenna plug is not your problem. Another option:reinstall it all yourself.

1. run a 14guage wire from the + (positive)terminal on your battery to the + (positive, usually red)wire on your HU harness.

2. Find a good ground on the frame.(try not to use the engine bay as you may get engine noise when listening to the HU). Run a 14guage wire from the newly created ground to the - (negative, usually black) wire in the HU harness.

3. Use a 12V test light (5 dollar item) to find a spot in your fuse box that only has power when the keys are in the ACC or ON position. Run a 14guage cable from that to the ACC wire (usually yellow) in the HU harness.

This gives you your basic hot cold and your signal wire setup. Plug in your antenna and you are ready to go.

Let me know if this helps you out at all. Thanks,John H.

[QUOTE=johndabrit]most decks wont turn on unless the ANTENNA is plugged into the unit. Huh, that's weird. I have never hooked an antenna up to a HU ever. You may have saved me some future head scratching. Thanks. (Clarion doesn't seem to have this problem).

Bypass the factory harness for power. Go directly to the fuse block for power/acc or the battery. Make sure you ground the unit as well.
