Hello there. Ok, here goes. The advanced technology package/premium package that has these jacksallows the jacks on the back of the council to access the auxilery feature of the system. This allows you to run an ipod or DVD player for that matter to it...now, to answer your question, the DVD jack is really not needed in most applications, as there is a DVD in the center council (so why would one ever need to plug in a DVD to this)...however, I personally bought my M45 with these jacks for a different reason. I have a pretty tricked out stereo in there and I have my ipod video/iphone hooked up to it using all 3 jacks (IE: video and audio) so that I can play video's from my ipod on the screen. This is cool because you can download movies and music video's to your iphone or video ipod and then play them on the screen. You will want a high quality cable for this. (not those crappy ones for like $10 that run thru your phono plug on your ipod)...you want a good one that plugs into the bottom. I have a monster cable one that was about $50 or so I think...then, taking this a step further, the retards at Infiniti have a lock on the video system so that the car video functions only work with the emergency brake on while the car is in park. There is a great bypass for this on ebay if you just type in m35 dvd bypass or something like that. It is not hard to wire up (maybe an hr) but it will now allow you to watch video's or music video's while the car is in motion. Equally as important, it disables the dumb feature on the navigation where you can not program in an address while driving. So, sorry for the book, but that is the main use for the video jack. Its really cool once you get it going, I would totally recommend it!
