My speakers cut out randomly while driving. Sometimes they will all go off, and other times just the front ones will go off. They will come on at some point between 30 sec. and 15 minutes. I made an appointment with the dealer, but they were all working at the time of the appointment so they said they couldn't do anything without duplicating the problem. Since it is so random, I don't know what to do. Help?

Just shooting from the hip here but that sounds like a problem with the Bose amp (8 spkr or 14 spkr system). Does it only happen while moving, when it is hot outside, etc??

It's been so hot here lately, it might be that. I need to check to see about moving or not. Is the Bose amp susceptible to heat and/or motion?

Heat, yes, any amp is susceptible to heat. Compound effect, heat causes resistance to build which incurs more heat etc. Motion from the standpoint if there is a loose connection/broken wire in the harness bumps can cause it to shift around. I think that the "refurbishing" of factory Bose amps runs about $200.

Thanks DeanM45 - Who does the refurbishing of the Bose amps, the dealer or a car stereo dealer?

you should open your trunk and let the heat out before driving away on hot days. See if that helps :gotme

Definitely not the dealer, I saw the service on EBAY a while back. It is just a "reconditioning" of the factory amp to replace anything broken and bring it back to factory spec. Many years ago I had it done on my factory amp in my GTP but that place is no longer around.

I found out how to check for system errors and it said that there were Bose amp overheating errors on the days in question (those really hot consistent days). I haven't had any problems since the temp. has cooled down. Nice when a problem fixes itself! :)

you can always add a fan so that the air is always moving around the amp.

I did this to my last BMW when I hid an Audison amp behind a panel. Not that the Audison amp ever shut of becuse it has it's own fan inside but I wanted to help it by moving air around it so I installed 3 fans. never had a problem even when temps were close to 100 deg for a week

if you need pics let me know.
