My stereo was emitting a very lound tone from the left back speaker,I detached the cable to the speaker at the speaker. Now the stereo works with out that speaker being connected. Do I need to replace the speaker. What are my options.I have some pictures but i haven't figured out how to attach them yet.

Sounds like the Amp on that speaker has gone bad. Each speaker in the OEM Bose system has its own amplifier.

the passenger side back speaker used to screech when i first bought my J. I unplugged that bad boy. Just yesterday my Drivers side back speaker gave the heaviest bass sound ever lol.. non stop. I unplugged that bad boy. Theres a place that you send them to and they repair it for like 75 dollars each speaker. I decided that I'm going to just replace the head unit, both front and back speakers.

The difference between the standard system in the J and the systems today is that

On the J, The amplifiers are built into each speaker, (so you have 4 altogether) the Head unit sends the signal and the speakers amplify it.

The new head units however, have the amplifer built into it. So the speakers automatically recieve the amplified signal. So if you were to install new back speakers, because the current head unit on the J does not have an amplifier it wouldnt make too good of a sound Unless you bought the harness adapter which is like 50.00 So i say.

New system
