stereo sound problems!

I know absolutely nothing about stereos! My car stereo sound will sometimes (actually 1/2 the time) will go loud then quiet. And the sound will just continuously fluctuate in and out. I thought it was because it was just an old stereo (stock), but i just bought a new one and it still does it! Why would it do this and is there a fix?

Insufficiant power can cause that. Check the power and ground wires for your head unit. Also, I perfer to use 10-12ga for headunits. 18ga just doesn't cut it.

10ga seems WAY bigger than necessary for an HU, but I guess if you have it laying around it can't hurt. 14ga should be large enough.
