Bad ground.

Check that your ground wire is direct to metal, preferably someplace on the chassis, scrape away some paint for better contact.

unlikely. Generally most time's i've seen this issue is A) the most common is a blown pico fuse internally on a pioneer head unit usually caused by diyers who think it's a good idea to pull rcas out of their amps while the radio is on. And when the rcas touch ground it blows this pico fuse internally.B) Don't see it that often but low quality signal cables ran near power sources can also cause this issue..

Unlikely?

I know you're a pro, Dave, but it's very likely, especially in a DIY install. I think "B" is the second-most likely cause in a DIY system.

At least start him off with the basics. My money is on a crappy ground.

i don't think he is reposting on purpose. It happened to me the other week when I had a for-sale thread open, and when i refreshed it reposted the topic. I didn't notice until I had 3 of them lol.

its definitely grounds.

i had the same thing with my alpine system, so i threw a bunch (3-4) more grounds in the system. took the whine away.
