My wifes 2001 Maxima has had this problem for about 6-7 years now. She will be driving and all of a sudden the radio will get louder & louder almost like someone is turning it on full blast. Also, it will change from FM to AM on its own. It has even been off while driving & all of a sudden it turns itself on. And it will change to a different station all on its own. Kinda freaks her out, like someone is in there doing it but she is all alone in the car & it has done it with me when I have driven it by myself before. But it mostly does it when she drives it.

When we tell people & some shops, they dont know what to think. Anyone ever have this happen? What is also strange is, her other car she had before the Maxima we bought new as well & the stereo in that car did the same thing! We had a 3 1/2 year old son that passed away from heart problems some years ago and my female cousin really thinks it could be him. But I really dont believe too much in that stuff. Is there any type of problems that can cause a stereo to act up like this?

It would have to be faulty electronics in the headunit itself. Probably easiest just to replace the headunit, either with another OEM unit or something aftermarket.
