First off, I've read through the entire audio forum and it has helped me greatly with my installation so far. I just wanted to be 100% sure as to what I need to do. Basically I bought an aftermarket head unit and a pair of speakers. My 93 Fastback comes with an active speaker system.

Head Unit HarnessThe head unit harness comes with an antenna power wire. The car harness comes with an antenna power wire (blue) and an amp wire (blue w/white stripes). What am I supposed to splice the antenna power wire to? I've talked to different people and they've told me different answers - anywhere from splicing all three, to connecting the antenna wire with just the amp wire (blue w/white stripes). Can someone clarify? Does splicing the car harness' amp wire to anything matter at all since i'm not even planning to use the active system?

SpeakersAll I have to do is to use the +/- speaker wires and tape up the other 3 wires correct? As with the rear speakers, do I have to bypass the amp, or can I just take out the entire amp and wire up just the +/-?

Thanks ahead of time. The previous threads have been of great help, especially with the DIY plates.

First off make sure you have a wiring harness for the car, an antenna adapter (to plug car antenna wire to unit) and in some case a mount kit, but you can get away sometimes without one. The power antenna wire and the amp wire can be spliced together then connect the splice to your igniton wire.. Make sure you get a wiring diagram for your car if you don't have one already. I believe the ignition wire is a 14g yellow wire. Not sure though. What kind of h.u. are you using?? Depending on the model you can just remove factory amp and use the h.u's preamp voltage to power the speakers. Hope this info comes in handy.. I am a certified mecp installer. And I'm sure others of that nature will be following up.

Yea, I have a scosche wiring harness for the car, an antenna adapter, and I don't think I need a mount kit for the head unit. It's a Sony RX3300. So what I'm getting is that the power antenna wire from the head unit needs to be spliced with the amp wire from the car harness. I'm a bit confused as to why this splice then needs to be connected to the ignition wire? I'm using the installdr.com reference/wiring guide for reference and it doesn't mention anything about it.
