I am picking up a 2009 Versa SL Hatchback that has the 6 speaker stereo with one in each door, and two tweeters in the windshield pillar. I am interested in adding a sub. My first thought is adding the factory Fosgate 8" 100 watt because maybe, and maybe you can help me with this, it will bolt right in. Does the wiring harness in the "trunk" area have a connection back there? Or does that connection only come with the units already with the Fosgate sub system?I noticed that the upgrade states,"Upgraded speakers and Fosgate sub installed" It doesn't say anything about the head unit. I would like to keep the head unit. I am planning on upgrading the 6 1/2" speakers that come in the doors. So, if the factory Fosgate unit with bolt right in, I want to go that way. If not then I have a lot of installation questions. I also have an Alpine 45W RMS x 4 amp that I can bridge to 100W RMS x 2. So do I use it as a dual speaker sub amp, or is there hookups in the back of the factory head unit to provide pre-amp outs if I want to use it for the speakers instead? (Then use the fosgate powered sub or another one) I grew up in the sixties, idolizing Clapton and Hendrix but don't want to rock the neighborhood, just a great full sound, with enough of an edge to at least upset my enemies. I could ramble on for hours, but let's get started there. Thank you ahead of time for your help. Bob

Ok I personally did not get the sub from Nissan because I already have an amp and subs from my previous car to put into it.

I have the premium sound system with the 6 disc cd changer and pioneer speakers. I didn't hook up my stereo myself because the HU doesn't have the RCA plugs in the back.

Thank you for your reply. I was considering a separate sub as well. There are so many things to learn about hooking up a sub, and from someone who was once a licensed state inspection mechanic, all I need to know are the particulars. Here are some of my considerations...1) 100 watt powered sub, or 250 watt powered sub, and if so, do I need to run a heavy gauge wire all the way through the car, and the firewall, into the battery? 2) If the hookup is already there for the Rockford Fosgate, wouldn't it be easier to pick up one of these, especially if the wiring harness already has all of the connections right there. I have found that mfrs. wire their cars one way, and then just adjust what they attach or leave off. That way they are not making a bunch of different wiring harnesses. Is that what they have done in this case? 3) Does the 6 speaker system that comes with the SL output to the sub through that harness already, even though a sub is not standard fare?4) Is the head unit different for the ones that come with the sub? You get the idea, any information is appreciated. So what steps did you have to take to add the sub, or should I say, switch it over from your other car? Thanks ahead of time. I am a Versa newbie because I have a deposit on one, and am awaiting for delivery in about 10 days. So everything is new to me, and I cannot yet go out and tear a panel off and look to find out.

Ok, after giving this a lot of thought, I realized that what would be ideal for me is if the connection on the wiring harness was already there in the back so I could purchase the Rockford Fosgate factory sub, and just put it in. That way it would be a low enough power sub that I wouldn't have to run a dedicated heavy guaug wire through the interior, and firewall, and hook it up directly to the battery. I understand that a full rockin sub is better, but I am having a hard time imagining ripping the interior up on a brand new, not even delivered car yet. If I can't install the factory 8" sub easily, then I may just have to install the upgraded speakers in the doors, and use it a while like that, before adding a more serious sub, and yes pulling the interior apart... very, very carefully. So my one and only question is this, even though it is in 2 parts. Is the wiring harness in the back of an 09 SL Hatchback have the connections for the sub sitting there waiting for a hookup? and part 2 is does the SL Hatch radio hooked into that harness, or even have an available plug change/aleration that would feed that hookup already built into the radio. This radio is the one with the MP3 hookup in it, and larger than the other radio, but I do not have bluetooth in it if that matters or comes separately. Like I said, I am talking without having the vehicle yet, so forgive me if I appear like an idiot. Delivery is in another 10 days.

My interior looks perfectly fine in my car and I don't have the factory sub.

All you have to do is run it somewhere where you know that it won't bulge out. Mine is ran through my carpet I believe but I didn't install the sub.

I did install my LED underglow kit, and the module is mounted right above the cup holders and you can't see any wires. Also I have a floor LED kit and all the wires are hidden.

If you do it just make sure that you have enough wire but just not an accessive amount because than you will find yourself trying to hide a bundled up cable somewhere.

Thats no fun. Good luck!

To get the trim out you have to remove the rear seats. Pretty sure the wiring is there, although the harness has three sections, so if its not in one spot it wont work. I'll pull my head unit and get back to you about the wiring being present at the HU connection. what you want to do is possible but the trim and stock sub cost between $600 and $800 aprox. might be better off saving your bucks and waiting to invest in aftermarket, imo.
