I'm wondering if anyone have the steps in taking out the oil pan for a gasket replacement on my 94 240SX Convertible. My oil is starting to leak from the gasket. I jack it up and starting to unscrew but realized that it is harder than I think. There are two to four screw that is hard to reach without taking other parts out. I've read other's posting but none really give a step by step. I don't think it is an easy task like one of the posting said, "take out screw and drop the oil pan". Other parts have to come off before the oil pan can come off. Anyone???

You main issue is that either A) the engine needs to be lifted up off the crossmember OR B) the crossmember has to be dropped... to be able to drop the pan.

A friend of mine hit the oil pan and he had a hard time replace it. Is there anything that can be done at the same time while he's at it?

moving this to 240 tech.

KA oil pans stretch the whole underside of the block. I find taking an engine hoist and getting it up high (after disconnecting the engine mounts) works, or using the hoist to suspend it and remove the engine crossmember.

yep, you'll need to lift and suspend the motor a bit.

you can also go about it a semi-similar way, a bit more ghetto/dangerous though. unbolt the motor mounts and the transmission mount. lift the setup at the oil pan with a good sized wood block where the jack is going to meet the oil pan. setup jack stands along the transmission and leave the jack at the oil pan till you're ready to drop the pan.

heh, i did a similar ghetto rig on my dad's F150. We took a big wood block and jacked up at the crank pully.

My trick. Loosen motor mounts, 2 14mm almost to where they come off. Remove the 2 transmission brakets. Loosen all oil pan bolts and get oil pan loose... Then jack engine up until it won't go much anymore because it will be lifting up the car because you left the nuts on the mount Then you may have room to get it off, or you'll have to remove 3 bolts to take off the oil pickup.

Check that link, its a writeup about how to remove the oil pan the easy way. I dont see how its ghetto... It beats the heck out of taking off the front cross member.

480SX,

I took out the crossmembrance and still it did not drop low enough to get the oil pan out. I haven't remove the two nuts that hold the engine but I will to see if the crossmembrance will drop lower. This is not as easy as it seems. I'll let you all know what's going on.

Follow your steps and it worked. Thanks. Putting it back is the problem now.
