a while ago, i picked up a new project for myself: it's an 89(?) 240 coupe. it's in pretty rough shape (see attached picture) and needs a LOT of work. it'll be fun.

anyways, it came with a pair of imported ca's: a ca18de and a ca18det. the t-version spun a bearing somewhere - i'm not sure where, so once i find out, that will determine my plans for the pair. i'm not sure how sick i'm going to go with this setup, but right now my goal is to have a respectable street car that i can take to the track/strip and put up some good times.

i'd like to go jdm on this one if i can get a nice sr20 equipped s13 silvia half-cut. i'd put the sr in the vert and use everything else to make the coupe a RHD with the silvia front end. it's going to be such a long project and i have so much going on right now that plans will more than likely change though. we'll see.

anyways, just wanted to drop in and say hi to all the ca-enthusiasts. i'll be in here a lot more as i get started on my ca builds. wish me luck!

oh yeah, i say stepping "down" in reference to a lower displacement than i'm used to in my sporty compacts.

here's a picture of most of my engine collection: mitsubishi 4g63t (bare block on left), mitsubishi g4cs (back left w/ blue valve cover), nissan vg30e (the big one in the back), nissan ca18de (complete one in the middle right), and nissan ca18det (right front w/ no valve covers). i've got a couple other mitsubishi 4g63's in my other garage. i'm in the process of building a stock 4g63 to put in my dsm right now. once i get that done, i'm going to get started on tearing down my ca's.

i swear those are camaro wheels on that trailer.

if youre used to a dsm's crap (i.e. unreliability), the ca should be no problem. looks like youve got a lot of work ahead of you though! please god get that coupe painted STAT!

yeah... there's trans am wheels on the otherside. we borrowed the trailer from a redneck. can you tell? lol.

yes, i would consider myself well versed in the ways of the DSM...

yeah, i really need to get the shell cleaned up and primed before winter as it is being stored outside. that's what happens when you don't have a proper place to store a car. either way though, it's getting tarped and put on 55 gallon drums... if i can get enough people to help me lift it up there. it needs quite a bit of bumping, grinding, and welding though before it gets sprayed. definately need to get on that before october - that's when it starts to get cold and wintery up here in the mitten.

well, thanks for the welcomes.

yeah, most projects do become racecars because you always end up buying upgraded performance parts when something needs to be replaced or purchased. and the more you tear it apart the more parts you need to "replace".

the ca is getting torn down completely. so you know what that means.

the coupe is all ready completely torn apart - the ONLY things on that shell are the fuel lines, the glass, the doors, and the trunk. EVERYTHING else has all ready been taken off. and it's missing most of the bolts. fortuneately, i have access to a junk s13 that i can scavange parts from. however, depending on how serious i get with this project, i might end up replacing all the bolts while i'm at it.

it's a long, unmapped road ahead of me, so i'm not going to get too set in one direction. if i do, i might not like where i end up.

for the record, my car isnt a "project car" but rather an "experimental vehicle"

it just sounds better when i tell someone im late because the experimental vehicle broke down. sounds all cool and futuristic, when in reality its just unreliable and in need of paint.

dude, that lack of fasteners is going to make you cry. you had better rob that parts car blind.

believe me, i know.

i'm not sure if it's as bad as having a 5 gallon bucket full of bolts that you don't know where they came from. i've built 4g63's with buckets of bolts... not fun. at least with a parts car, i know where bolts are coming from and hence where they should go. when you're pulling them out of a bucket, you don't have a clue.
