does the flywheel get stepped on an s13 sr?when i brought the flywheel to the machine shop,i told him that it was the same as a 91 sentra(is this correct?)and he looked in the book and said it needs a 30 thousandths step.meaning the pressure plate will actually mount lower than the clutch disk sits, pulling it tighter(u would think).any comments?

What they mean as a stepped flywheel is a flywheel that has two different height levels on the flywheel itself. The other kind of flywheel is a flat surfaced levelled flywheel.

This didn't answer what he needs to actually do.

Using the Sentra SE-R as reference in this case would be wrong. The Sentra is a FWD and the SR20 is RWD, causing them to have completely different drivetrain layouts. When I went to have my flywheel resurfaced, the last owner had worn the clutch disk down so it was metal to metal and it stepped the flywheel itself (in a way)

Anyways, the mechanic measured the thickness of the flywheel in certain areas and determined the face itself is flat, not stepped. The only part of the flywheel that has an offset surface, is the middle where the flywheel bolts go through.

I'm pretty sure that's right, someone correct me otherwise.

Hey, if it isn't broke, don't fix it. It sounds like you'll be fine. If it makes you feel any better, my spec stage 3 is running like CRAP! But that's more due to an ongoing gear oil leak from the transmission. Doh!

thanks for replyin man.well...its not broke, but ive been getting a stutter,or maybe clutch slip, when going from first to second hard.it kinda hesitates, but the motor sounds like its revvin up....its not that bad,and rarely do i beat on my ****,but its there...i was thinkin cause the bov is vented to the atmosphere...could this be a possibility?

Yeah i didn't answer, I just wanted to let him know that there's just two different kinds of flywheels and the sr20 flywheel is a stepped flywheel.

Venting to the atmosphere will cause some on/off throttle breakup. It just won't be as smooth with the transition from the bov opening/throttle closed-to-open throttle again
