My steering wheel, ever since I bought the car has had some horizontal play in it. Like something in the column isn't tight, or something is broken, idk. I have never removed a steering wheel before, and I don't know what is behind it that could cause this.

It's not rotational play you would get from worn suspension parts. I can actually grab the steering wheel at 9 and 3 and move it about an inch left to right, without turning the wheel.

Anybody know what this could be?

Sounds like some sort of bushings are broken/cracked inside the column. None of the newer zx's have tilt columns do they? Ive seen other old tilt colums wear giving an up and down looseness. But you'll probably have to disassemble your column to find out what's wrong.

I had the same problem... Mine consisted of 2 problems. The first was a wore out steering knuckle at the rack and pinion, cost was $110.00, I believe. The second problem is the steering tube bracket insulator which had actually seperated from the rubber bushing. This bracket insulator and rubber bushing is what bolts up to the firewall where the column passes thru. If you have any question, email me at [email protected] and I can send some pictures to help you.

I might have the second problem you mentioned...I will email you for a few pictures and stuff. I don't think anything suspension related is causing the problem - everything is nice and tight.

Are you talking about part number 48342N on this page:
