The guy I bought my 96J from had the steering wheel clocked wrong. I ripped it out today (whole 15 minutes worth of work) and reclocked it (still have to notch it over one more it seems). On the right side of the steering wheel there is a control for the cruise control....

On the LEFT side, there's another similar jack that is unused. What is this for? What fits in there? If it's a sound control module for the stereo system, where the hell do I get it? And would it work?

would be nice to know what it is for

....could have possibly been for the cruise buttons on a RHD model...if they had one available?

Personally I'd like to switch my buttons to the left side, would make things easier driving with one hand on the interstate, with my wife holding my other hand. Makes things difficult to turn the cruise on when you have to reach across the wheel.

Does nobody know?I have to re-re-clock it today so I'll take a picture.

I even google searched it this morning to see if I could find any information...nothing popped up easily, I'm still looking.

Q45Tech might know...otherwise it might be all day before someone gets back on that one.

Well, you tell us. You're the one with it apart. Trace where the wires go. Are they connected to the cruise control harness? That would be my guess that they just mass produced the wheels for LHD and RHD use and only added the control on the needed side and the other got the plastic plate.

You do need to be careful where you have your hand. A common injury in a frontal crash is broken arms because of them being in the way of the air bag deploying. What position do you drive with the one hand.

And, just because you can't shift with two hands on the wheel doesn't mean that you can't put your right hand back on the wheel after you shift. If one hand on top of the wheel was better than two, why don't you see race car drivers using only one hand? (Even tho they have to shift)

I already put it back together.I suppose it could simply be the mass production LHD and RHD thing. but nuts if that's the case! I was hoping there's a stereo control module to go on the left :C

1. left side @ about 9:45 - 10:00

2. I dont drive a race car, I drive a J...when I drive a go-kart on a track(being the only thing I get to drive on a track) I do use both hands.

And Leuthesius, I pulled out my service manual from the trunk last night and spent about 45 mins looking over it being curious myself. Nothing mentioned in there even on wiring schematics about double harnesses in the wheel. I did see the fog light harnesses mentioned a while back, but nothing in the wheel. Maybe a Leopard J Ferie manual might show something different.
