I picked up a brand new murano LE a couple of days ago.

Problem is that everytime braking at medium to high speed(40~70), I can feel that the steering wheel shakes. Not very serious, but still can feel it.

Is this supposed to happen on a new vehicle?

My Murano does have 140 miles on it upon pickup.

Your brake rotors are warped.

Take it back to your dealer. - They will most likely turn/mill (place them on a lathe and mill them straight) your rotors or install new ones. I would recommend that you "request" new ones given your 3 day old Mo. Most Dealerships would not do this unless "coerced"... But don't worry if all they do is turn/machine them. Many times rotors are better "longer" afterwards.

Good luck and congrats on your LE

I have a 2009 SL and do not have that problem. I have the 18" wheels. I have heard of vibration problems with the 20" wheels. Search this site for more info. Definitely should not happen. Could be a brake pad/rotor problem. Good luck.

Of course you don't have this problem, it isn't a characteristic of the vehicle, or a problem that everyone would experience, it is obviously a factory defect that Nissan will correct under warranty. And you won't need to ask to have the rotors replaced, your service manager will replace them under warranty, they can't machine/turn the rotors on a new vehicle because then the rotors wouldn't be new anymore. Not to worry, you'll get them replaced and things will be fine.

Misconception,

"The" vehicle is only "new" until you sign the paperwork and take it off the lot. The dealership has no real or legal obligation to replace the rotors, only to correct the issue. Warped rotors is a wear and tear item just like brakes. The fix is to turn them unless material removed results in exceeding min thickness requirements.

Now, your logic is correct however, and given the "age/mileage" of/on his Mo they should and/or will replace without comment - but going in demanding or expecting that replacement is the only fix could cause you unwarranted anger or concern.

The front rotors on my Acura warped within the first 3000 miles. Pulled them off and had my local guy turn them for a $20. Not one shimmy in the last 42K+ miles.

Ameshrimp,As I mentioned before - if your dealership replaces them, that's somewhat expected and would be great. If they don't, no big deal either. Just keep your receipt/work order documenting the "early-on" issue. In the event that they warp quickly again, the dealer will then most definitely replace them. This wasn't common yet a typical event during my previous life / Nissan Tech days.

I'm sure by now this issue is already behind ya.

Cheers

I have not picked up my murano yet since there are some paint issues(bird poop can not be washed away) that need one more day.

The dealer did tell me this afternoon that the brake work was done but they only refinished the rotor. I think that is fine with me as long as things work well afterwards.

But I will definitely keep the receipt or related documentation. Thanks for mentioning that.

The first time it happened to me my emergency brake was slightly on. The next time it was the rotors. Do not let them BS you. Tell them to fix the problem and do not settle for anything less then perfect!Joe
