I have a 2008 G35x. Whenever I start the car and the power steering wheel drops down back into position, I noticed that when I go to begin steering, the steering wheel drops a little more. After that, the steering wheel is stable. Does this happen to anyone else? Is this abnormal or do they all do this?

I'm assuming you're referring to the entry/exit feature where the wheel moves up to the top during exit, then after you start the car the wheel drops back down. I've never noticed a second movement after it resets.

You can turn that off if you choose.

Yes, that is the feature. I like that feature, so would prefer to not turn it off. I guess I'll need to have the dealer take a look at it when it goes in for service.

j, I think I know what you are referring to. I had the same complaint. Take it to the dealer. It has to do with the gear having too much slack. I had let it go at first. But the drop got worse & worse. I can't remember the part they had to order, but I'll try to find the work order. Don't worry, it's warranty work. I had trouble explaining it to them over the phone so I just took it in and showed them.

One caution though. They have to remove the steering wheel for this. When I got it back my wheel was off center. I took it back and asked them to center the wheel. While at work, I get on a conference call with my service advisor and the tech. The tech kept saying there's nothing wrong. The car tracks true. I kept mentioning that the alignment isn't off, just the steering wheel. Well, they go into telling me they will check my alignment specs. They said "if the toe is within specs, the steering wheel will be centered." Well, the toe was within specs. I had just gotten it aligned. Why wouldn't it be? But the steering wheel is still off centered to me. It leans to the left.

Sorry to go off track. Take it to the dealer. They'll get it fixed. Let me know if you need to know what was actually done.

Thanks for the information. I wonder if I should even bother getting this fixed. If I do, I will be sure to be upfront with the dealer about making sure the steering wheel is perfectly centered (not just "within specs").
