I noticed the steering wheel feels a bit rubbery. was this done to decrease engine vibration reaching the wheel. also has anyone switch their wheels.

Stock steering wheels tend to be a bit more "rubbery" than aftermarket ones. It's normal, but it's not designed to reduce engine vibration... that's what OEM engine and transmission mounts are for. It're really just that soft to make for comfortable driving. It MAY reduce some road vibration, but I've driven cars with aftermarket steering wheels and there really isn't that much difference.

Well, the wheel itself is not designed to be numb, but you are wrong masticatingcow. There is a 15mm rubber spacer at the firewall that is between the 2 peice sterring shaft. GTO makes a billet spacer that replaces this to take out the slop.

But you are wrong Rico!(maby?)Steering rack is on the cross-member So the whole steering system(at least before the tie rods) moves with the car...so rubber piece might stop vibrations through the shaft but the vibrations will still travel though the chassy and into the steering hub...

Rubber space might be there to fail when input from the rack become great enough to cause violent steering wheel movements.(that would be my guess) Or it could allow for flex during initial turning of the wheel before power steering kicks in( although Its my understanding that that is taken care of by a torsion bar in the rack itself...)

At any rate I just wanted to chime in and show of my high price edjucation(+1 for community colleges ) But I have to agree soft wheel Is just a comfort thing...bask in the luxury of the S13

I see, ok no upgrade for now, no shft knob upgrade either, I'll look into bushings and motor mounts.
