Car: 1992 Nissan 240SX

Problem: When I turn the steering wheel it makes this grinding metal-against-metal noise. The noise is louder at certain times, such as cold weather. The noise appears to come from the back of the steering wheel or somewhere inside the steering column. What could it be? Is there a bearing in there that could be bad? If so, how difficult is it to replace? Thanks you.

Try spraying some white lithium grease between the steering wheel and the finisher on the back of the steering wheel. There is a plate that the horn contact touchs on the plate and when dry makes a loud grinding noise. You maybe able to look between the wheel and trim cover and see the contact or just take the trim off the column.

Nope, no airbags. It is the standard stock wheel.
