hello....im new to this forum and recent owner of 09 versa S..hatchback..now im having second thoughts that i shouldve bought the SL model, because of the bluetooth and steering wheel controls...my question is , if anyone has ever converted an SL steering wheel and mount it on a regular S model? or perhaps another solution to get controls on my current steering wheel fabricated on...any suggestion would be appreciated...

It would cost much more than it's worth to put all that into your car. It is no where near a plug and play thing. While you may not have steering wheel controls, why not just get an aftermarket deck with bluetooth? There are plenty of choices out there including a double-din from Clarion that looks factory and no one would think you put it there.

Does anyone know if a 09 SL already has the wiring in place for steering wheel controls? I'd be interested to know as we just bought a used 09 SL Hatch and this would have been a nice feature.

The steering wheel will fit to the steering column, but the wiring from the column to the Body Control Module isn't there unless the factory put it in. The harness is different depending on the options you have. You can add all the correct harnesses in there, but it will be a lot of work to do it properly. It may not be worth it to get a couple of the options you want. There may be an aftermarket solution to get just what you want.

Hey if your interested in getting an aftermarket type of steering wheel controls you could go with something like this:

Here is a link to a few items that are similar to the picture. They are fairly cheap (about $30-$90 if you have a compatible head unit).

Hope this helps!

Hi.

I'm currently installing the steering audio remote control on a Nissan TIIDA 1.8 japan made, I bought the controls from a US versa SL. I'm currently wiring from the clockspring to the radio. I will post the results of the project.

PD: the steering wheel from US versa is different internally than the tiida

I can't wait to see your results. If you can do a step-b y-step write up, I can add it to our tech database that should be out soon.

When you say internally, which section do you mean?

the difference is in the airbag mounting.the tiida japan made (jn1 vin) the airbag mounts using a housing (like the new altima), in the versa the airbag fits in a set of springs, so you can't install a tiida airbag in the versa steering wheel

I have two tiidas to try my mod, one with the base radio and another one with the premium radio.both have the pins for the audio controls so let's cross our fingers for work in both cars, this is a easy mod that can help other users to get this installed.

all you need to do it's conecting the steering audio controls to the clockspring and then route 3 cables from the clockspring to the radio bypassing the bluetooth module that the SL has.

reading in the altima fourum I notice that bluetooth versions of the altima gives diferent values for the controls, however in the tiida controls the values are the same of the basic altima so that means in theory that this should work.

I didn't had the time today to route the cables but I will try tomorrow to do this,

If works I will make a guide

I finally finish my project.

I don't recommend this . I spent 4 days working on this. the base radio didn't have the capability to control the steering wheel audio control so I open my radio and I found that there was missing two resistors to finish the circuit of the audio control, so I add them.

after that I connect the controls and all the buttons were different in function, for example if I press seek up it turn up the volume, etc

so I was able to correct this by opening the controls and change the resistors values for the correct ones for the radio.

I think this is not necessary if you have the SL radio since it will recognize the correct values. I can post pictures later if someone likes to do this hard mod.

Cheers

Nice work. But you're right. I would not wanna go through that trouble just to control it from my steering wheel. I bought the base SL and for just under $500, added my own stereo with gps, bluetooth, and USB playback and a subwoofer .

Hi,

you need to wire the cables from the clockspring to the radio, and also if you have a SL radio you don't need to put resistors inside the radio.

in case that you have the base radio you will need to open the radio and put 2 0ohm (jumper) in two lines

I can open the radio and post some pictures.
