Steering wheel chatter

At 85000 km for my G35x I am noticing that the steering wheel chatters and clicks when driving over rough roads, especially when turning. If I pull on the steering wheel firmly in any direction, the chattering stops. What part needs to be replaced? It is definitely from the steering wheel, the wheels are balanced and the alignment is not off.

Mine does it when I go over shuddering bumps (like a RR crossing).

Does it do it all the time?

This is the only thing annoying to live with, otherwise it is such an awesome car. It is only noticeable on rough roads, and in Canada, our roads are rough. I can get rid of the chatter if say I push the steering wheel up with my knees when driving straight, or if I pull the wheel down during turns. I might take it in, but in the past, the car sometimes comes out worse from the shop.

The only thing I can suggest is to have a dealer check it out...you really don't want to do anything that might affect steering.

To me it sounds like he is speaking of the tilt. My 08 seems like it almost has a lock that engages after you push it up or down. I notice this after starting. If I push it up or down I can feel a 'click' and then it doesn't do it afterwards.

I've had my steering wheel make a similar noise when going over RR tracks...it is annoying. I can see it doing the same thing on rough roads. I'm not sure there is anything wrong with it...that just might be how it is.
