Has anyone tried to drive a Q w/out the power steering working? Until I get a replacement hose I was thinking of removing the PS belt.

As the car is so heavy, my guess is it would not be a good idea.

FYI...some guy is parting out a 91Q on eBay. He wanted $75 for an 11 year old power steering hose!

NOT A GOOD IDEA!!! My power-steering hose gave way 2 years ago and it was tough trying to manage the car without the PS. It made a loud groaning sound and tight turns required a lot of effort. I mean, you could drive around but....

I agree it will be very heavy, but I'm guessing the groaning sound Sopdadope heard was from the pump working on air instead of liquid. Without the belt attached you won't actually damage anything, but "tough trying to manage the car" sounds very dangerous.

When I think back to my last non-power steering car (1977 Toyota Celica) it weighed about 2,500 pounds and had 185/70 14 tires on it. That car you had to pull pretty hard on to park it or any movement under 10mph....so I'd think you'd get one hell of a workout with your 4,000 pound Q. Not recommended I would think.
