hi, i had a problem with my steering so i replaced my powersteering rack, balljoints, bushings, control arms, inner and outer tie rods. had it realigned 3 times. after i replace all parts with new i still had the same problem. when i take a turn either side, while im turning it will jerk harder toward the way im turning which can be dangerous cause it launches me into the other lane at times. also i noticed when i turn the steering wheel all the way the outer tie rods will hit the control arm. i replaced strut assemblies twice with used junk yard ones, so idk they could prolly still be n not the best of shape. when i go to brake, the steering will jerk to one side as well as it does taking turns.

anybody have an idea what may be causing this problem i have?

sounds like your wheels need to be balanced this is kinda confusing. sounds like a combo of bad caster and wheel balancing. Did u mark where your rack meets the u- joint when u took of the steering rack?

I'm having the exact same problem with mine. Almost every mechanic I take it to tells me the rack is worn out (except one who told me my tires were different sizes, even though they were the exact same size/brand on both sides ).

Seeing that your rack has been replaced and still hasn't fixed the problem, how is your power steering pump? Does it leak? Is there fluid in it? Does it whine/buzz?

a line has a small leak in it cause its not tightened enough, thats about it for that. powersteering pump is good.

i just took it in for an alignment couple days ago. It hasnt been in an accident, although it has been off road which messed up my shocks.

i noticed my problems with it AFTER i changed out my strut assembly and powersteering rack.

i didnt mark anything when i replaced the powersteering rack. was i supposed to mark where the rack meets the u-joint?

i also have adjustable megan tension rods. i havnt had a mechanic say those are the problem yet tho. mechanic told me it was prolly the wrong year steering rack or worn out. i replaced it with a new rack after i was told this and still same problem.

it could be becuase of not realigning the rack when u took it off. Does it seem like it takes longer to steer to one side to another??

yes it does. i basically just threw the new rack on and got a wheel alignment. In order to align it could i just straighten the wheels, unbolt the rack n bolt it back up?or what would be the best way to align the rack?

thanks alot for your help

well that could work but u could screw up ur toe in and toe out. There was a rule of thumb i used to know how to align any rack wit the steering wheel but i forgot can check on monday by asking my teacher. Best way is to do it on the alignment rack but the tech at the shop should be able to tell u that. Where are you going to get this all checked out? and tech could see if its not passing a visual check then something is broken or on the computer when u align it u can visually see one wheel is toe'ed out more than the other.
