car runs /drives fine on any roads but once i get to about 45 all the way through 60 mph, the steering wheel shakes crazy and mellows out... wheels are balanced, front left tire has a chunk out of it lol. the weird thing is while i had the car up on a lift, i drove the car through the gears while off the ground and the car started shaking even then...i tightened the e-brake up to get a better grab not long ago but could that have made this problem start? im almost positive its in the rear if just driving it in the air like that made it shake too.... anyway, have at it.

I think you answered your own question. If it's shakin with the tires in the air, then it's definitely a mis-balanced wheel/tire or it could be that chunk missing out of one wheel that's throwing it off. I would get the re-balanced just to be sure, maybe consider some hubcentric rings to even it out.

If im not mistaking last time I checked the 240 is RWD meaning when you drive threw the gears on jack stands you cannot get anything out of the front end( THE TIRES DONT MOVE) Nothing in the rear end is going to make the steering wheel shake.

I had bad rotors that caused mine to shake!!!

If its shaking there is alot of things it can be.But more than likely that tire that has a chunk out of it the belt is broken in. Get a new tire!!!!!!!!!!!

1: Check the tie rod ends,2: make sure your rotors are not worped3: make your you dont have a bad wheel bearing4: make sure the rims are not bent

Agree with rb25drag. Take the wheel with the tire chunk off and replace the bad rubber. I've found these 240sx's to be very sensitive to wheel imbalance. When you've got a new tire, before they install the new rubber, have them check the steel or alloy wheel very carefully for run-out and have the dude BALANCE THE WHEEL ONLY (first) then install the tire on the rim. Then re-balance the installed Tire and Wheel together as a separate operation.

As basic as it seems did you checked if your lug nuts are proprely fastened? It already happened to me, it was shaking like mad, then one day the sound stopped for a minute....and the car dropped because i lost a wheel (at least i wasnt driving fast and i was dropped so the wheel didn't came out)

(ok back then i was driving a Honda..but the thing is the same)
