I took my 240 in for an alignment and my mechanic said that since my power steering is uninstalled I have burned up my rack and pinion. He said it was "unsafe." Then he asked me for the parts of the power steering(pump, bracket, etc.). He also said either the turbo had to come off to put on the power steering or I would have to keep replacing the rack. Has this ever come up with anyone?? What do you think I should do?

did you leave some fluid in the rack and loop the lines so that its not running dry?

no I dont have any fluid in it or the lines. He said the steering rack assy is pretty much shot, and I need to replace it or it could lock up while driving. Should I replace it and get the power steering on, or loop the lines on the one I have?

PS Hey Korey havent heard from you in a while

Yeah if you didn't have fluid you would toast the rack and it could seize up, and that would be a bad thing.

Get a new one (or working used, whatever), the choice to either keep PS or just put in fluid and loop the lines is yours; it ought to be easier than it was before either way, I'd think.. no fluid would make it more difficult to move wouldn't it?
