looking in my fsm the area in question is called the "rear housing cover". appears that i have some leakage and it looks to be where the pinion assembly protrudes out of the rear cover.

the fsm shows 3 pinion seal rings.

how hard is it to replace these - if they are available?

or should i start looking for another rack??

thjanks

They're not too bad to replace. Surprisingly they were actually pretty affordable. One was metal and the other two were rubber, looked kind of like the main seals. You need to pull the steering rack off the car the slide the actual rack out of the casing and slide the new seals on it. Not too bad and you get the opportunity to put on new dust boots and possibly change your tie rods in one swoop.
