steering rack 300zx

I have an 86 nissan 300zx that needs the steering rack replaced. I have been told a steering rack from an 88 will work and then I was told it wouldn't. Does anyone know if it will work?? I just got the car and would love to get it fixed so I can drive it. Thanks!!

Yup it fits, there is only one part number for all Z31 racks, 84-89. The confusion is likely the fact that the 87-89 uses longer lca's, different strut housings, and slightly longer tie rod ends to make up for the addition 10mm of width. So rack is the same, rod ends are different but I'm pretty sure you can use the later rod ends on an early car just noth the early rod ends on a late car.
