My steering is shot on my 94Q.

The rear wheels seem to turn fine with the steering wheel.

The front wheels don't start turning until I turn the steering wheel at least 1/4 the way, then it will somehow "catch." It also makes a clicking noise when I turn side to side while parked.

Recently I replaced the hub assembly on the left side. At first I thought the wheel bearing had gone out but now it seems to be happening again slightly and I think its because of the steering rack.

Sounds dangerous!

I can imagine some slop with bad rack bushings, but not a 1/4 turn of the steering wheel. Time for some under-car diagnosis and part swapping...

Did you resolve this???

My steering is doing the same thing. I can turn the wheel about a quarter turn now without the car changing direction. It just makes a grinding noise. It use to just make a pop when I turned it right and left before it "caught". Then two pops. Now it just loosely grinds. I had to drive it without power steering for a little while and it ruined what I think might be a bushing just behind the steering wheel?

Let me know what caused this problem for you please! My '97 Q is at a shop, and it really shouldn't be on the road for a minute with all that dangerous slop. But I don't want to pay for a whole new rack and pinion set if I don't have to.

Do you have any maintenance history for your suspension and steering system? Sounds like studied neglect led to this condition.
