I have the infamous steering "pop" which can be felt in the steering wheel. It happens at speeds less than 5 MPH when turning full right and slowly going over a bump.I just returned from the dealership. They were not able to duplicate "pop" until I drove with the Tech and simulated it. He agreed there was a problem. The dealership has ordered and entire steering rack for my car. I mentioned that it might be the "steering joint assy" as others have had this replaced with success. Has anyone else had the whole rack replaced?Pretty pricey part. Glad it still under warranty.

yeah I got one of that popping sound that i can feel and hear on the steering wheel. I took it to the dealership and they replaced the steering column. It went away for 3-4 months and now it happen again. I'm going to take it to the dealership again soon.

I had this problem and the dealer replacing the upper steering joint assembly fixed this for me. NOT the whole steering rack and NOT the LOWER joint assembly. It's a common problem much like the fuel pump.

Took mine in and they replaced the upper strut bearings and intermediate steering shaft. Both of these were listed on technical service bulletins. Problem seems to be fixed.

I have the same problem CLUNKING AND KNOCKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END (front suspension) OF THE VEHICLE AND I FELT IT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. The noise was coming from passenger side. All these issues are acting when the vehicle is driving slowly and making right turn going up on the driveway or down on the driveway. I filled a complaint to Office of Defects Investigation (ODI), an office within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). If you have the same problem even without accident I'm going to recommend to file a complaint too.
PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE FROM YOUR TIME AND FILL OUT THIS COMPLAINT FORM.

It is my turn to have this problem. My Versa has only 26850 KM (not miles) .… Yesterday when I picked up my V at the dealer , I was expecting three possible speech... the Upper strut bearing OR the steering column OR we are sorry mister customer, there is no issue with your car. But no, they surprised me, they will contact me later because the bushings of the frame needs to be replaced and they are currently on back order.

I had this problem with my '08 HB. Warranty repair was upper strut mount bearings. Haven't had a problem since.

In August 2010, my 2008 Versa sedan w/ 22,000 miles starting a "clunking" sound under driver's side. Took it to my service dealership.....installed retainer on heat shield over muffler ! "Clunking" continued and spread under driver's side all the way to the rear and under trunk area. This was intermittent, sometimes very loud and I could sense a vibration. Took it back to delearship in September......they could not duplicate sound so could not repair anything. Sound continued and made me feel unsafe and uncertain as to what was happening so I took it back in October. After keeping the car for 2 days, they duplicated sound and ended up replacing left/right strut mounting bearings....saga continued and had to take it back again for SAME issue. After much heated conversation, I made contact w/ Nissan Corp and they arranged for service to take car in and work w/ Technical Support to determine problem.....they arranged a loaner vehicle(another story).......4 days later they ended up replacing Intermediate shaft. I have had the car back 1 day, let's hope this is the solution 'cause I am very frustrated. I love the Versa and I am the original owner, an "old lady" and I know the car has been taken care of. Any ideas if the problem continues ?
Is this a known problem for the Versa ?

yes, heard both intermediate shaft and strut bearings replaced from different people. it's not a large amount of problems, but you're not alone.

Finally they replaced my sub-frame and a frame link , so far, no more ‘klunk’ noise when I am turning and no more ‘pop’ sensation in the steering wheel. :woot:

If this is a TSB... it shouldn't matter if your warranty is over, right?

So sorry to bump such an old thread but I am having the same problem... Any time my car sits for longer than a short period of time, and I start to move, such as pulling out of a parking spot, either left or right, I feel/hear a REALLY loud pop.... sometimes it happens when I let the clutch all the way out, sometimes when I go over a speed bump, and sometimes doesn't happen at all, although it happens more than it doesn't.

On 5/18/10 I took my car in because there was a popping noise whenever I turned fully... not as loud as this by any means, and many little ones, not one loud pop. They replaced the strut mount bearings because they were badly rusted.

My car is a 2007 with 65xxx miles on it.... the problem I'm having is that I have lowering springs, as well as other aftermarket parts. Since it is something with the steering, will they see the lowering springs and not touch it under the TSB?

I appreciate any help you guys have to offer!

Thanks!
