I have a 07 m35 the steering lock module malfunctioned and I had to replace it. I have purchased the part but I have not had it installed yet. Money issues. My question is if I have the new module installed will I have to get the keys reprogrammed to the new module? and if so will that have to be done at the dealership or can I purchase one and do it myself? I have watched a couple of videos of people doing it themselves with the help of some device that walk you through it I wonder if that's just for new keys or can it be done with me replacing the steering lock module.

I am having the same problem right now and it is 2018 I have a 07 M35 and I could not find the part anywhere I was able to get it started only for it to not start again luckily I had it at home and it has been sitting for the last 2 months. I found the part on Ebay but now I am hearing that I will have to take the car to the dealership because it still will have to be reprogrammed. I called Infiniti and they told me parts and labor would be 1785. I do not know how much they will charge just to reprogram. I guess I will have to call. I messaged a mechanic online and he told me that it would not have to be reprogrammed does anyone know if this is true or not?

I believe it has to be preprogrammed. Without calling a dealership, I would assume it is their standard "reprogramming charge" be it keys or any other items that communicate to enable the car to start. Approx $125 around here.
It would be worthwhile to call a locksmith as well, but their costs are usually pretty high (almost as much as the dealer) from my recent inquiries.

As for the parts and saving on labor, see if going over these 3 threads gives you any ideas:
1. 06-m45-bricked-key-icon-on-dash-pushbut ... 19510.html
2. 2007-m35-won-t-start-t613922.html
3. infiniti-m35x-steering-column-lock-2007-t620138.html

If you go the replace-at-home route, let me know and I'll describe a way to trick the car into starting with the "new" parts for that one trip to the dealer to get it programmed.

Ok thank you, after I made my first post I found that there is a device that I can purchase to program my key. I just have to find out how much and which one for my car, it seems that people are posting about their Nissan I cant find anything on infiniti.

update I replaced my steering lock module before I took the old one off, I plugged the new module up and the car started right up but it didnt unlock the steering wheel, I had to actually have it placed on the steering column. After I fully replaced the part I had to press the start button twice before the car would start. I press the brake like normal it will light up the dash turn on the radio but wouldnt start I would have to turn it off and do it again then it will start. The yellow key light stay on but I have been driving since Sat. and it is now Tuesday so far no issues it will start just not on the first push.

Congrats on getting the issue mostly solved... and thanks for the update.

One thing I didn't get clearly:
- was the replacement module you installed brand new or used?

It was used. I was kind of skeptical on buying used but it was tested before I bought it, I pray that I have no issues out of it, although I know how to fix it took about 2.5 hours dont want to have to do it over again tho.

Glad that worked out, and I understand the hassle. I have only done the replacement once and when I did it, the car refused to take the replacement module.
Since I couldn't quickly/easily remove and reinstall the module on the column, I Frankensteined 2 columns and got it working.

What tools did you use to remove your old module from the column?
And did you source the break-away bolts like OEM?

in order to remove the breakaway bolts I first used a center punch so I could use my extraction kit and the first one came right on out, but the second one came out so easy I loosened it by accident, my drill kept slipping hitting the side of the breakaway making it loose, I was able to put my needle nose pliers on it and unscrewed it no problem. I didnt have to take off the steering colum at all, I took off the bolts and dropped it to the floor positioned the collum so that I can reach it, and the rest is history. I did have some help tho. if I ever have to do it again I would be able to do it much faster since I know what to do. I had to order the new breakaway screws from infiniti cost $3.71 very cheap. there is a bolt on the other side of the module that you have to unloosen the nut on, once you do that the part will fall right off.

With such improvisation, one hopes you're not on borrowed time.
