Hello,

I have a stock 93 240sx. When I am driving at highway speeds and turn to the right past say 45 degrees the steering seems to shift further to the right and then when I turn back to the left and feels like the steering shifts back? I checked under the car and have not been able to find anything other than the spring on the front passenger side will move if I pull and push hard on it. I tried tightening the strut bolts in the engine bay but the spring still moves. The driver's side spring does not move. CMy struts are old and the springs are original. Has anyone else experienced this? I but do not want to put money just throw parts at this problem so I am hoping someone who reads this has solved this problem. My ball joints on the control arms are decent.

Steering rack moving?

The bushings wear out and allow the rack to move from side to side - Dangerous.

I thought about that and tried to push on the rack and it would not move, although it may only be moving under high pressure. I will check the bolts and see if they are loose and maybe just replace the bushings. It is strange it only happens when I turn right and then turn back left. I can turn as far left as I want and there is not a shifting feel unless I have already turned to the right.

Anyways thanks for the input.

Yeah, you're not going to manually create that kind of force to inspect it.

You should be able to see evidence of sliding or movement on the rack tube itself.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcome. I have actually been around a long time. My original user name is AHall, but I lost my password and changed my email and so I had to start over. I been driving my 240sx since 1993.
