Is it normal to have your steering wheel fight you when you try to chage directions fast? I've noticed that when I'm turning one direction then quickly switch, my steering wheel tries to fight me. Seems kinda dangerous. Is that normal...is anyone else experiencing that also? Is my power steering pump going out? Any help please. Thanks.:help

i have felt that on new nissans as well. i believe it is pretty much normal. its due to the valveing in the steering rack. its really scary when your in an suv like the xterra and you are changing directions on a fast turn.

Well that makes me feel better, kinda. Think if I remove the power steering pump it would stop that? Im planning a sr swap soon anyhow.

You are "outrunning" your powersteering pump. If you removed your PS system it would eliminate this effect, but it would be just as hard, if not harder than the "fighting" you are feeling ALL the time.

take your power steering pump belt off and drive the car before you remove the whole system. so you can get a feel for what your in for if you take it out.
