Steering column question

How much loose can you have on the steering colum shaft ( in the engine bay right after the bushing to the rack and pinion)

1991 180sx

i can move the hole thing about an 1inch and a half (up down) almost if the shaft was 1-2 inches too ling... weird

so can someone check on their s13 thanks
