My vent on the underside of the steering column doesn't appear to actually emit any air. All my other vents work fine, self-diagnostic shows no errors.

Any tips on getting it working?

Also, am I interpreting the FSM diagram correctly that this vent should come on with in "face" mode? Seems backward to me. It points at my feet. It should come on in "feet" mode.

Actually that a crotch vent meant to keep your stuff warm or cold. Make sure you turn it in all directions when the vents are on "Face" mode.

somone may have taken it apart and not put it back together right or the foam gasket is shot and the air is blowing around

Right, that's the issue exactly. My stuff needs to be kept warm at all times, not just when I have the dash vents blowing. Feet mode is always on. Face mode isn't. The column vent is on the wrong mode.

That's what I was hoping. I just haven't looked to be sure, yet, because it's too cold to be crawling around upside down beneath the dash investigating things. I really, passionately, thoroughly hate winter.

Just put the HVAC controls to Bi-level then close the "Face vents" so the air will only flow to the crotch and feet vents.

Workarounds abound, but the design is still backward.

If you have some electrical skill I am sure you can rewire the control unit.

Like my daddy says "Anything is possible and anything is fixable"

But I think they got it right, I mean the first time I saw the car and its features I had complaints but then I thought it through and saw they were right.

It'd be nice, but I doubt it. It's the mechanical mix doors that are the culprit, not merely electronics.
