ok so my dad asked me this question and i didnt know how to answer so im asking you guys. if its a stupid question just be gentle.

anyways, we were watching drifting on tv last night and he started asking about how the cars get sooo much steering angle. and i told him the use adjustable suspension parts that net them a few extra degrees, but it seems like some cars have way more then just a few extra degrees of angle. so his question was how do they do that? do they modify their rack and pinion? or do they sacrafice alignment for steering angle? thanks in advance, TJG

alright thats cool, thanks for all the help! do you have any idea how much angle you have now? doesn't have to be exact just a rough estimate..

I havent really thought of measuring it. I guess it would've been a good idea to do a before and after , but oh well.

i have peak-performance tie rods on my car at one point. But i took em off cuz they would get TOO much angle and the outer tie rod would hit my lower control arm. I think i just need to re-center my steering rack. But theres a fine line with too much angle and a lot of angle. Suposly i hear the japanese cut the knuckles off the tie rods and reweld em to get even more angle.

i did that it doesnt work. But i run 18x9.5's up front. Only way to stop binding is to re-center ur steering rack if u have aftermarket tie rods and such. Im also doing extended tubes too, and they have a bump steer kit for that.

i will when i build up my car. I read a thread on ziptied of a big arguement of binding of the tires at full lock. Centering the steering rack seems to be the helper, but ill find out first hand and see wats happens.

i read the thread u posted, did matt mean cut part of the lower control arm? Just so the tie rod has room and doesnt hit it?

The best way obviously to avoid that is to center your steering wheel before the binding happens , but it doesnt always happen that way.

What he meant to "cut out" was a piece of steel that you have might have lying around in a shop or garage , then fit it between the stop and the control arm.
