Where is the cheapest place to get 4 new 16" steel wheels for the winter? I am in Canada and I see some for $60.00 each. Wondering if I can get them any cheaper.

$60 ea is about the best you'll do for brand new steel rims. Whatever you buy, be sure they are not the 'universal or multi-fit' type. You want to make sure the bolt pattern and hub diameter are an exact fit otherwise you may run into vibration issues.

Used might be more affordable...

I scooped a set of 4 used Altima rims 2 years ago for $100 on Kijiji. The '03-06 Altima steel rims I use are a very close match to the OEM Rogue steel rims. The only difference is offset which is 5mm more. Not a big enough difference to worry about. I've been driving 2 years on them with no ill effects.

Start looking now! Steel rims will be a hot commodity and they will be difficult to find within the next 2-3 mos.

When I get my winter rims and tires put on how much does it typically cost to get the TPMS valves taken off the stock rims and put on my winter one's? I would rather not have the TPMS light on all winter.

It's really not worth doing this for 2 reasons:

1) TPMS sensors should not be continuously installed/removed. Eventually, they will be damaged and cost $150 ea. to replace.

2) With the TPMS sensors are absent, your Rogue will continue to operate normally. It will not impact the ABS, VDC, etc. The TPMS light will automatically reset when you re-install the OEM wheels come spring.

So my suggestion is to do what I did:

1) Run your winter wheels/tires without TPMS sensors. TPMS is not an excuse to avoid checking tire pressure. Check your tire pressures at least once per month like you are supposed to.

2) Cut a 3/8" square piece of electrical tape to cover the warning light for the winter. Yes, sounds ghetto but you will not see either the tape or warning light once applied.

I would like to know if steel wheels from a 2005 Altima will fit my Rogue S model? They are 16" by 6.5 width and the # on the rim says X-99128N.

Thanks

Yes, they do. I use the exact same Altima wheels on my Rogue.

I did mention this earlier...

I'm going to merge this thread with your first one, just to keep everything together.

I believe they are multi fit rims which someone said to stay away from. Are these the same rims that Nissan sells? I do not want my new tires to wear more if they are not exact.

Multi-fit rims have a center bore/hub that is much larger to accommodate different vehicles. This is referred to as lug centric. You are therefore relying on the lug nuts to center the wheel and there is a greater chance of vibration issues. Proper tightening of the lug nuts can reduce the chances of this happening:

1) Installing the wheel with the vehicle jacked up.
2) Tighten the lug nuts in a criss-cross pattern.
3) Tighten the lug nuts in 2-3 stages until you they are tightened (80 ft-lb).

Nearly all OEM and most of the better aftermarket wheels have a center bore that matches the vehicle. This is referred to as hub centric and ensures the wheel is properly centered. It is nearly impossible to mis-align a hub centric wheel during installation hence no vibrations.

I have personally used both wheel types and I can attest to how easy it is to mis-align a lug centric wheel. Many times I would have to re-install all 4 wheels due to the vibrations. Fortunately they were alloy wheels and I eventually purchased hub centering rings for them. I don't think you can do this with steel wheels.

Okay maybe I will go with a hub centric wheel. I will call Nissan to see if that's what they carry. I don't want any vibrations.

Thanks

I was told from a garage that the 6.5" width will not fit a Rogue and it is supposed to be 5 3/4". Please advise which is correct?

Okay now I am thinking either of these sizes should work since the width is only 0.75" different. Am I correct on this?

:bs:

1) Um, I have never heard of a 5 3/4" width wheel. At least not on a modern car.

2) The 16x6.5 steel wheel comes standard on Rogue S models. It's even listed on the door jamb sticker and in the owners manual!

IMHO, run very far away from this so called 'garage'... they have no idea what they are talking about!

It was not just one garage that told me this size. I will go with the 16x6.5 wheel multifit from Costco which are $40.00 each, cheapest I could find in my area. Has anyone had any issues with the wheels from Costco?

You have to be a bit careful regarding multi-fit wheels. They use an oversize hub bore (the big hole in the middle of the wheel) and rely on the lug nuts to center the wheel. This can cause vibration issues if the wheel is not perfectly centered. Typically, you need to tighten the lug nuts as follows:

1) Ensure there is no weight on the tire (vehicle jacked up and supported on jack stands).

2) Tighten the lug nuts in 2-3 stages using cross-cross pattern until you reach the recommended 80 ft-lbs of torque.

I've used these type of wheels before, and they can be tricky to install perfectly. I've had to re-install the wheels on a couple of occasions to get rid of the vibration.

The preferred option is a proper hub centric wheel where the wheel hub bore matches the hub and are self centering. Most OEM wheels and good aftermarket steel wheels are of this type. In the case of aftermarket alloy wheels, they use special hub adapter rings to match the OEM hub.
