Hi guys,

Do you know if any of the models below has the same stearing wheel as our lovely J30? I want to put either a new leather or a wood trim on the wheel but the guys have it available only for these models.

I know for sure that most of them are similar enough.. I think all of those will bolt up but the airbags may not work right, youd probably have to splice the wiring in...

elan,

I'm assuming your still in the Toronto area.

There is a custom automotive upholstry shop in The Bloor west/Shaw street are of Toronto (south of Bloor off a side street-name escapes me-however they've been around for like 25 years). If you want to keep the wheel and have it covered by new leather or leather with wood inserts, they can do it. The cost is $100 for leather only, more depending on type of wood and amount of wood used. A friend had it done. The results look totally OEM.

Ah, the luxury of leather-covered steering wheels. Where corrosive palm-sweat burns straight-in and gets cooked by sunlight and heat, which causes them to flake and die. Out of the dozen or so J30s I looked at during my quest, about three had good, original steering wheels. The Wheelskins covers might be the best, cheapest repair at around $30 and an hour of playing Betsy Ross while listening to the radio, but it will increase the diameter of the grip (which many people also like more). I'd much rather have a "cheap" old vinyl-clad wheel that looks good for forty years.Oh, and the one I got has a good wheel, so far. It was one of the many details that swayed me to it.

driverdriver,

Thanks a lot for your information, you have always been helpful. I'm still in NY (waiting for my lease to end) but moving to Toronto in a month finally. I'm traveling there from time to time. But it seems to be a good solution that you have recommended. I think I will stop by the guys. Thanks again.

Defiant, I would go for them I found a realy good one. But the problem is that on one of the spokes the leather is torn. And it's torn close to the center. So if I put the wheelskin the hole will not be covered. So I need to do the whole leather replacement.

try out one of those patch kits, where its the liquid stuff, and u put it over the tear, then get it heated up and it "magically" repairs it. LMAO

they also make a hybrid steering-wheel cover/wrap. IIRC it comes with a long roll of leather that has a thick threading already in it. You simply wrap the entire while (inside and out) very tightly, going around each spoke. Then tie it tightly and tuck the tie in.

I'm sure you can find one at autozone/pepboyz or similar! will increase diameter of grip as well as cover your holes
