steering coulmn wiring problem

i had to replace my steering column on my 92 (manual) a while back and i replaced it with one off of a 90 (auto). i finally got around to hooking up the wiring and there is a connector on both the column and harness that dont have a place to plug in. the one on the harness is a 3 pin, and on the column its a 2 pin connector running to the ignition. im thinking that they are supposed to do the same thing, but the different years have different connections or something. help plz...
