Hey,

Do any of you central florida people know of a good place to get my engine steamcleaned? I figured it might be easier while it is out of the car, you know...

Also those of you who have steam cleaned your engines, how did you find the place that did it? what should i look for in the yellow pages, there's no steam cleaning engine section...

Thanks,Sean

be sure to cover your dist. and all other elec. parts. your engine will bog afterwards or not start if you don't

might get some of the dust off, but all the grease, oil, battery acid, etc. will need more than water to come off. plus there are many parts of your engine you don't want to be soaked with water. I'm just planning on renting a steam cleaner and cleaning out the engine bay during the swap after the KA is yanked out.

theres an engine cleaner in a can, its called GUNK or something, its smells horrible, but it cleans the entire engine area pretty nicely, and with little scrubbing:) just watch out for painted surfaces and electrical...but then again, i dont have to worry about much of that (;)...see here: link)

well my engine bay itself is pretty nice looking already, but the ca18det is pretty dirty. I guess Libero USA doesn't steam clean their engines! I like your idea wingzero..but where are you renting a steam cleaner from?

also, Infamous, thanks. I'll try that!

Thanks everyone,Sean

get a big bottle of Simple Green. That stuff is badass. Cleans just about anything. I sprayed some on a spake KA i had and wiped it down and it was bling bling new again.

nismo1182, simple green doesn't even begin to touch this crap on my engine! I used polishing compound on the valve covers and took off a thin layer of paint in the process but the red looks nice now! I've been scrubbing the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold heat shield all day with metal polish and steel wool and they're beginning to look decent...maybe i won't need steam cleaning afterall!

I'm still looking for a detailing shop in that can do it just to see what it costs (all this scrubbing is tiring me out!) lol

Technoman i'll definately come help you out with that sr when you get around to it! if i had the $$$ i would bring it to enjuku racing and let them do it, or at least let them do the wiring harness and stuff..the blacktops are a ****** to wire from what i've heard!

I clean the engine on my gst regularly with the hose when I wash it. I'm sure to cover my intake with something ( plastic bags ) but other than that, sometimes I'll use the car wash soap to get the painted areas. if you are worried about it, cover up your alternator and/or cap and rotor (not sure what you guys have, don't have my s14 yet) maybe even dry as much of it as you can, and let it sit for about three hours, to dry. it's theoretically possible to create steam from a wet engine and possibly crack something, but on an na motor, probably not, and I've driven after washing my turbo motor, check around on other car sites. not saying you guys don't know your s*t, but there's really not enough info here about everything

AJ-SPEC..the engine i'm trying to clean IS a turbo engine, but since its out of the car i don't have to worry about it getting wet!:) What is "gst" that you clean it with..do they have it at autozone or discount auto?
