I've done it. The difference is if someone called me on it, I'd admit to it and pay for it. I certainly wouldnt curse at the employee and refuse to leave.

Same here.

Although, I've never been called on it. Odd.

I've done it too, but I filled it with Sprite so the clear water cup looked like it was filled with water :)

I don't recall ever doing that. I don't get water at fast food places.

Justifying bad behavior by saying "everyone does it it" is the logic of a child. Despite the fact that many of us act like children does not entitle us to a child's pass on breaking the rules. Grow the f*** up.

I did, at a gas station, when I was maybe 12. The manager, obviously a wise fellow, clearly knew my intentions from the start. As soon as I did it, he confronted me. I had no money, but was with my cousin who did. My cousin paid the man for me. I was scared s***. To this day I have NO IDEA what motivated me to do it. I wasn't showing off, because my cousin acted clearly disdainful of the act the whole time. I wasn't trying to get free soda, because I didn't want the soda until the idea of getting it for free popped into my head. I was just being a dumbass kid. I'm certainly not proud of it.

I once threw a pack of balloons out of the corner store door into the bushes and got it when I left. Also when I had my phase of smoking cigarettes at 12 y/o, my friend was acting like he was dancing and swiped a pack for me right in front of the counter. AND. one time my dad asked for a pack of cigarettes and when he turned around, he grabbed a camel cig ad and slid it in his coat pocket with perfect timing.

Its petty theft. Should you get a felony for taking the little jelly packets from Ihop, or the sample size ssoaps and toothpaste from hotels? No. Cmon TMS and the rest of these communist bastards that think he should be in for 25-life, be real. Its a f***ing 6oz cup of soda. He should be punished worse for arguing and refusing to leave after. Even then theres no need for an outcry and a trial over it.

The value of what was stolen is ENTIRELY IRRELEVANT. The act of theft is all that matters.

And I'm not a Communist. I'm an Imperialist.

Morally and ethically, sure, but to the law the value of theft is very relevant.

Not sure if serious.

You're saying that there is no magnitude of crimes?

Serious.

No. I'm saying that wrong is wrong, and attempting to assign it value is beside the point. And, at any rate, monetary value is only one form of measuring worth. If someone steals your Chevy Cavalier, by all rights you should be grateful where value is concerned. But that's not how it works. A person still chose to put personal gain before your own basic human rights. And you're still out a car. A car you should be happy to not have to drive anymore and happy to receive an insurance check for, but a car nonetheless. And, if you're driving a Cavalier, probably your ONLY car. Because no one buys a Cavalier if they can afford anything else. Oh, also, all your meth was in there.

So you're saying that stealing a soda is equivalent to stealing a car, robbing a bank, and scamming old people out of their life savings?

In his defense the water logo was confusing, we need a recall ration of the soda machine to get a clear understanding. He just didn't which was water lol.
Or in a different defense he did get water which was his intent, water did go into his cup, and was not his control that sugar and syrup flowed into his cup as well thus making soda, so clearly he is not guilty being water was received, everything else was a gift from the store.

Troll doesn't understand simple English.

If I steal your sole means of transportation, your only vehicle, your primary means of getting to work (last I checked, it was a $300 geriatric Buick), am I less culpable than I would be if I stole a $350,000 Ferrari from my neighbor who has 9 cars?

By your logic, I should get a stern talking-to for the former, and a lengthy prison sentence for the latter.

Instead of thinking of new and increasingly asinine ways of trolling, think about comprehending concepts that just happen to fall mere inches outside of your narrow and limited worldview.

Ethically I COMPLETELY agree with MoD. If you steal a piece of cheese from your friend's fridge or steal a sack of cash from the bank, you're still stealing and it's not right.

The law treats different kinds of theft differently (and for good reason), but I do agree with the principle.

As for auto theft, I think the law in most states treats it all the same regardless of the vehicle's value. For other stolen items, different states have different valuations for what constitutes "grand theft." Someone with a legal background should correct me.

If you steal a soda, you should get yelled at (unless youre belligerent, in which case you should get your a** kicked). If you steal a car, you should get flogged in the town square AND thrown in prison.

There is certain categories which are automatically a felony or higher degree regardless of value. Could be $1 or $10,000. Any kind of government/city items, livestock, vehicles etc.

No trolling at all here.

To make sure I'm understanding you, with every crime, we must factory in ancillary losses too?

If your car is stolen and you're fired due to missing work, should they be charged as if they stole your yearly wage and any future increases that could have potentially been had with that company?

PS: Changed to an '01 Galant and the 250.

No. I was pointing out that stealing is stealing, regardless of the ability of the victim to absorb the loss (in response to this):
