Ok, theres a battle going on in FL in case no one has heard, over a proposal by Gov. Scott that would end what he considers unnecessary state licensing for certain professions. One in particular is Interior Designers. The following is a good article from Forbes.com regarding the situation.

http://www.forbes.com/2011/04/04/florid ... ellor.html

Here is one interesting quote from it:
Article wrote: One designer claimed that allowing just anyone to practice interior design would contribute to 88,000 deaths annually because of poor fabric selection.
Is that hyperbole maybe?

So anyway, i think the regulars here will probably guess where I stand on licensing, but anyone have any thoughts?

I read about it the other day and almost posted something about it. While I recognize health and safety concerns, regulating the designers isn't the answer. Safety regulations on finished products and fabrics is.

Unless there's an overwhelmingly legitimate public health or safety concern (or the possibility of unchecked fraud, such as for brokers / insurance agents / lenders), I support the elimination of such licensing functions.

Caveat emptor + smaller government + less bureaucracy = WIN.
