I have full coverage on my 240 it is like 50 a month or something really close to that. I think it would have saved me maybe 5-10 dollars a month to do liability. So in my opinion it is stupid to not have collision on your car (That and I would be pretty pissed if someone stole and smashed my car and I got nothing for it). He is not taking more than the repairs cost. He is paying himself for the labor instead of a shop. And if he finds the parts cheaper he is paying himself for the time he spent finding the parts cheaper. It is his decision to have his car fixed by whoever and however he wants (within reason). The only thing I agree with as the fanboy drifter scar s*** being retarded.
