** I'm officially retarded. It seems that the previous owner plugged the second intake resonator (the one that connects to an empty box in the radiator shroud) with a piece of cloth and electrical tape after he installed an electric fan. This piece of cloth had worked loose and was jamming the throttle plate. At idle it was open to let the car sit at 3K, andwhen pedal pressure was applied it would fall back into the gap to keep the car at that point. Just glad the little bugger didn't get down into the intake, I'm not fond of that removal procedure. Thanks for the help guys!!!
Here are the symptoms:
Upon starting the car, the car RACES to 3K rpm, but the throttle plate does not open at all. If you are to open the throttle plate it will race to wherever you decide to close the plate at, and remain there. In gear, under load, while moving, the car will struggle to stay at at least 3K, and pull farther if it is at all possible. Braking and transmission use can slow the car down, but as soon as the clutch is pushed or load is decreased, it will race to as high as possible.
My first assumption was a defective cruise control unit that was activating and pulling the throttle open. I disconnected cruise control, symptoms continued.
Next I noticed that the throttle feel had become very stiff, IE the pedal was now much more difficult to depress.
Now I have the computer resetting, as a note it did not throw any codes or bring a Check Engine light up. All ideas are helpful, I DESPERATELY need to use this car, and I just got done with $600 worth of driveline work...........
Thank you all very much!
