My car runs great after cleaning the MAF, with one exception. I need to put my feet on the gas and keep it depressed for about 10 seconds in order for the idle to catch. This only happens after the car has set for a while. The dealer says that the new IACV I put on is defective and that the MAF sensor needs to be replaced. I really don't believe them, due to the bad experiences I have had in the past with dealerships. Could this be caused by a sticking IACV (according to dealer) or a bad MAF sensor (once cleaned car runs very well) ? Once the car settles down and idle correctly, it runs perfect. I guest I need to know the symptons of a sticking IACV and a bad MAF. Thanks for your help.

The dealer may be right about the IACV. You also have to make sure the IACV stepper motor windings are not shorted as it can fry the ECU. Do a SEARCH as there are multiple threads in this forum about IACV problems. An internal failure of the MAF sensor may be difficult to diagnose since it may not trigger a fault code. Make sure the MAF sensor connector is clean and tight. With the engine running, tap the MAF sensor housing, closer to the connector, and see if there is a change in engine response.

I took the MAF sensor out as the car was idling high and nothing happened. Later on in the day, I started the car and the idle was normal, but this time when I removed the MAF, the car shutdown. Can anyone help diagnose this? Am I looking at a MAF or IACV? Any help is appreciated.
